The Bahamas is exploring a new tax residency certificate as part of a broader effort to attract international investors, family offices and the businesses and professionals that support them.

According to a report by The Tribune, the proposed certificate would recognize eligible holders who spend at least 90 days a year in The Bahamas and use the country as their primary tax residence. The legislation has been drafted and is under consultation; the Government expects to bring it to Parliament before year-end. The proposal is not yet established law.

A wider opportunity for people deciding where to live, work and manage their affairs as global wealth becomes more mobile.

The initiative reflects a wider opportunity for people who are considering where to live, work and manage their affairs as global wealth becomes more mobile. The Government says its aim is to attract additional business and revenue while strengthening the financial services sector and creating opportunities for Bahamian professionals.

The plan is also being paired with a proposed Bahamas Invest Concierge Unit, intended to streamline services for investors and family offices relocating to The Bahamas. The report says the Government expects the service to become operational by year-end.

For prospective buyers, these plans add to the conversation about The Bahamas as a place to establish a home and a lasting connection. Whether you are considering a primary residence, a second home or a property that fits a longer-term relocation plan, choosing the right location and understanding the buying process are essential first steps.
